Independent Winemakers Picnic
Second edition of a date that will become a must: the Independent Winemakers open the doors of their vineyards during the Whit weekend to talk about their work, their wines and to share, simply.
And, it’s enough to have already visited them in their vineyards or on the occasion of one of the many fairs they attend to meet the wine lovers to be aware of the passion and the enthusiasm with which they talk about their work.
Here, the opportunity is even better, it lasts all day, even three days for some, during which they are always keen to welcome people with a great sense of hospitality.
Over 650 vineyards have opened their doors on this occasion throughout France and nearly 35 in the Aude: from tours of the winery and the vineyard, hiking or horseback riding, live music to the village festival, giant barbecues or tasting local products, each one organizes his own party to better welcome people and talk about his precious knowledge.
For our part, we chose to discover to the Château Lalis, in the heart of the Corbières and the Valley of the Orbieu, in the pretty village of Ribaute, near Lagrasse. Philippe Estrade, oenologist, runs the family business that he took over in 2002 and upgraded to optimize the potential of these unique soils, balanced between river, mountain and maritime influences. He tells us about the result of a great work and a lot of care and proposes that we taste his beautiful range of AOC Corbières and Vins de pays wines.
On this sunny Sunday, we choose the elegant rosé Choryphée 2011 to go with our spring picnic. The barbecue grill is ready ... over vine shoots, of course, and the Estrade family treats us, in addition, to mussels, brownies and other delights "home made" while the children are busy with the coloring workshop.
Then, comes the moment for a long walk between the vines overlooking the Orbieu valley where Philip reveals to us the secrets of these beautiful landscapes. The day has passed delightfully, and we are pleased once again with a beautiful meeting.
Thank you for your hospitality, this beautiful day and we wish a long life to this event rich in exchanges around a magnificent profession!
